Network is Changing – Here’s

What You Need to Know"

Transition Smoothly to a Commercial EV Charging Network

with GoPlugable’s Compliant, Future-Proof Solutions

Why the Change?

The Scottish Government is shifting to commercial investment to accelerate EV adoption. CPS contracts will expire by December 2025, requiring all charge points to migrate to new operators. Public funding alone can’t meet Scotland’s ambitious 2030 goals for 100% zero-emission vehicles.

What Happens if You Don’t Act?

  • Loss of back-office support (payments, maintenance, compliance).

  • Charge points may default to "free vend" mode, risking revenue and reliability.

Introduction to the ChargePlace Scotland transition by Energy Saving Trust

FAQs

Why is the ChargePlace Scotland network shutting down?

The Scottish Government is transitioning to commercial investment to accelerate EV infrastructure growth and meet Scotland’s 2030 zero-emission vehicle targets. CPS contracts will expire by December 2025, requiring all charge points to migrate to new operators.

What is the difference between a Chare Point Network Operator (CPNO) and Charge point Operator (CPO)?

GoPlugable & CPS is a Charge point Network Operator (CPNO), means that they manage a connected network of charge points that are accessible under a single platform. CPNOs do not manufacture, own or install charging units; they simply provide a system for charge points to connect to and be managed separately by a charge point operator.  Through this system, charge points can be located on digital maps; payment and tariffs implemented; and charger faults recorded and repaired.

A charge point operator (CPO) provides a full turnkey solution from the ground up and is responsible for installation, maintenance and ongoing support of charging infrastructure, including payment support and logistics.

A CPO can also act as a CPNO, managing a network of charge points.

Can I keep my existing hardware?

Yes! GoPlugable’s OCCP-compliant software integrates with most existing charge points. We’ll audit your setup for compatibility and recommend upgrades only if necessary.

How long does the migration process take?

Most transitions take 3-5 weeks, depending on site complexity. We handle everything from audits to compliance checks.

How does roaming work with GoPlugable?

Roaming lets drivers from other networks use your charge points, increasing footfall and revenue. GoPlugable partners with UK and global roaming platforms, ensuring compliance with 2023 regulations.

What funding models are available for migration?

There are many options to choose from when it comes to funding models for your existing charging infrastructure.

Funding models can be fully, or part funded, incorporate a purchase agreement or involve leasing your land to the charge point operator.

To help you decide which model is best for your organisation, you can request your usage data from ChargePlace Scotland by contacting them directly at cps-transition@evoltcharging.co.uk
